2017 / 2018 Flu Vaccine is Now Available
The flu season is here and we’re ready for it.
COPA and the CDC recommend that all children get a flu vaccine. Children, and especially those under two years old, are at greatest risk for developing flu-related complications like pneumonia, ear infection, sinus infection and death. Children with compromised immune systems and asthma are especially vulnerable.
Every year we see too many kids suffer needlessly from ‘the flu,’ which can be a very serious illness. Parents take off work, children miss valuable school time, and there’s always a risk of complications. The best way to protect your child is to give them the flu vaccine.
THE FLU VACCINE
FluMist is no longer recommended as the most effective way to prevent the flu, and so we offer an injectable flu vaccine for all children six months and older. There is no live virus in COPA’s flu vaccine. Therefore you cannot get the flu from vaccination. There is no mercury or thimerosal in the flu vaccine that COPA is carrying this season.
This year’s flu vaccine protects against four different strains as determined most likely to impact the U.S. this year. Even if you contract a strain of the virus that is not included in the vaccine, your symptoms are likely to be less severe with a faster recovery time if you received the vaccine.
In Oregon, local pharmacies have restrictions on giving vaccines to younger children. When you’re a COPA patient, your best experience is to get your vaccine at one of our frequent flu clinics.
At COPA, getting your flu vaccine is a fast 10-minute visit. Plus, all the kids in the family can get their vaccine at the same time!
Regarding insurance, most plans cover the vaccine.
To schedule your appointment at one of our upcoming flu clinics, just call our main line at 541-389-6313. Make the time and help your family stay well and safe. We hope to see you soon!
